The Dashavatara includes ten notable incarnations of Lord Vishnu, each with a distinct purpose. The avatars are:
1. Matsya (The Fish): Saved the ancient scriptures and the sage Manu during a great flood.
2. Kurma (The Tortoise): Helped in the churning of the ocean to retrieve the nectar of immortality.
3. Varaha (The Boar): Rescued the Earth goddess from the demon Hiranyaksha.
4. Narasimha (The Man-Lion): Protected his devotee Prahlada by defeating the demon Hiranyakashipu.
5. Vamana (The Dwarf): Subdued the demon king Bali by taking three steps.
6. Parashurama (The Warrior with an Axe): Destroyed the warrior caste to rid the world of corruption.
7. Rama (The Prince of Ayodhya): Embarked on a quest to rescue his wife Sita from the demon king Ravana.
8. Krishna (The Divine Cowherd): Played a key role in the Mahabharata and delivered the Bhagavad Gita.
9. Buddha (The Enlightened One): Taught non-violence and compassion to alleviate suffering.
10. Kalki (The Future Warrior): Foretold to appear in the future to end the age of darkness.
